L'Oreal Colour RIche Nail Polish in 560 Greycian Goddess

Dusty, smoky, lovely Greycian Goddess was kind of a bust for me. They hooked me with the name but this just isn't the right polish for me. I think it's going to be a while before I try out any more L'Oreal nail polishes. Even if I didn't have the terrible habit of collecting nail polishes before I've used everything in my stash, I'm just too irritated with the quality of L'Oreal's nail polishes to bother working with them for a while. So while I like some of the colors in the new collection and I adore the name of this polish, I'm taking a break.

1) I do not like the brush. It isn't soft and flexible. It is also naturally streaky. Combining these qualities, it becomes very difficult to avoid streaks unless you paint in thick coats, barely dragging the brush across the nail.
2) I do not like the formula of this polish. It is somehow simultaneously thick and watery. It is too watery for me to be able to control it easily and it is too thick to paint nice even coats. You basically plop down polish and try and avoid touching it as much as possible.
3) 3 coats to opacity. I don't mind painting 3 coats. I do it even with some of the best nail polishes in my collection just to get perfect results. But with L'Oreal nail polishes I can't get away from the feeling that I am just wasting nail polish.
4) Color. I don't hate this color. In direct sunlight, it works for me as a nice, interesting take on a neutral. However, in any other lighting it brings out all the red in my skin and just looks wrong. I find this odd since I consider this a blue-toned gray and blue/cool tones usually work for me. However, if you look good in grays or you think this color would work for you, I'd say go for it because it's a pretty gray nail polish. I think this is what I expected Essie's Power Clutch to be like. This polish never darkens to black. It always stays a nice medium shade of gray.

L'Oreal Infallible 24 Hour Eyeshadow in 333 Golden Sage

This is going to be another one of those short reviews. I do not like this product. I don't know if it's horrible...but it doesn't work for me and I've given up trying to make it work. I expected a sort of smoky/dusty/dirty olive green color and instead, when you swatch the shadow you get a bright, shimmery green. Still, I was willing to work with that. However, the formula is a giant pain in the arse. Here are swatches. The shadow on my pointer finger is just from touching my finger to the product. The shadow on my middle finger is from pretty intense swatching so you can see how bright this shadow can get.

Now, imagine you want to get this powdery pigment from your finger to your eye. Well...this is the result.

REVIEW of L'Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in 140 Mauved

I'm going to keep this review short since there isn't much to say...good or bad...about this product. Mauved is a pretty light/medium pink lipstick shade. It would look natural with my skin tone and I would probably use it everyday if it wasn't a frosted lipstick. It is super frosted and shimmery but if you're alright with that, it glides smoothly over lips without accentuating lines or dryness. It feels semi-moisturizing but also a little greasy and I don't think wear time is very good. It feels light on my lips and it feels a bit tacky/sticky until it dries (which takes a while). Again, I'm not a fan of frosted lipsticks as they tend to make your teeth look yellow and look unnatural on pretty much everyone but if you don't mind the look, this might be something to try out.

REVIEW of Rimmel London Glam'Eyes HD Palette in 2 English Oak

I bought this on a whim during a Rimmel London sale because I thought the packaging was very cute and I was intrigued by the pink in this palette and the green in the other palette I picked up which I haven't really been using. How could I when I'm always reaching for this palette? I think I've worn it five or six times now when I'm in a rush or not in the mood to experiment because I know it works. Instead of trying to make my new green L'Oreal Infallible shadow meld into a wearable look, I just pick this up and I'm ready to go.

Pros
  • shimmer
  • girly/feminine colors
  • blendable
  • good pigmentation
  • packaging
I happen to like shimmer more often that not in my eyeshadows and this palette does not disappoint. The lighter colors all have the prettiest shimmer to them without being too glittery or distracting. I can wear this to school or work without looking overdone. The colors (which you can see in the pictures) are a sort of light champagne which I use for the inner corner or all over the eye, a pretty medium pink color which I find very wearable on the outer half of the eye or in the crease, a light brown/tan shade I use for the outer half of the eye or the crease, and a dark brown that I basically always use for the crease. All the shades are very pretty and feminine and I think they'd work great for a Valentine's Day look. The colors are pretty blendable. The lightest color, the champagne, sometimes gives me a little bit of trouble but I just pack more shadow on to help facilitate blending. The shadows are very soft and powdery so they tend to blend easily. The pigmentation is good for a cheaper drugstore shadow. With primer, all the colors are pretty pigmented and I don't feel the need to keep dipping back into the pan to pick up more color. The packaging is also super adorable. I can't be the only one who was sucked in by how cute this looked in the display.

REVIEW of Confetti Nail Polish in 104 Rhapsody in Blue

Love the song. Love the name. I am a bit of a music nerd and though I thrive off of powerful and/or emotional female vocals, I have a soft spot for some instrumentals. Rhapsody in Blue is one of them. And luckily, I happen to love this Confetti nail polish almost as much.

This is my first time trying a Confetti nail polish and I have to say I'm impressed. The polish applied smoothly though the formula might seem a tad watery/runny to O.P.I. and Essie devotees and the perfectionist in me must admit that the polish doesn't apply perfectly evenly. I can only tell with my nails about 5 inches or closer to my eyes but you can see the seams/edges where one brushstroke overlaps the other. This is probably due to the polish and not a flaw of the formula as the color falls somewhere between a shimmer and a frost which I find more difficult that creamy formulas.

The color is a nice cool-toned metallic blue shimmer. It's a bit greyed out which makes it look a bit like platinum but it is clearly a blue. The pictures are fairly accurate so I'm going to stop trying to describe it. I'll just say that I love the color though under yellow lighting, it can bring out the red in my hands. This does not happen at any other time.

CONCLUSION: At such a great price and with only minimal formula issues, I would recommend this polish and will probably repurchase it.

Dissatisfaction

Sometimes I feel a little overwhelmed by dissatisfaction. Dissatisfaction, to me, is not quite the same as depression or frustration or anger. It's probably not as a much of a concern for people who have truly pressing problems, but that is why it's carries the mildness of still seeming like a shade of satisfaction. On the spectrum of real world concerns, it occupies a tiny band towards the end before you hit the truly trivial. When I feel frustrated, it's like there's an elemental being trapped inside of me trying to claw it's way out. My chest doesn't seem to want to expand enough to let in enough air and I feel like I'm always stuck halfway through a breath and longing to scream. That is not dissatisfaction. Depression (not the medical definition) is like a heavy oppressive cloud of emotion that keeps me floating listlessly through the day and actively weighs me down and clouds my mind with negativity. Dissatisfaction is different.

Feeling dissatisfied with life is a bit like feeling apathetic. Instead of the heavy cloud of depression, it's more like light mist. It seeps into your eyes and mind and alters your perception of the world. I don't feel like I'm being frustrated in my attempts to get things done and I don't feel the lack of motivation that comes with overwhelming emotions of depression and anger that cloud your reason. Instead it feels like nothing is going quite right. There is no guide. There is no path. There is just floating along and letting yourself dissolve into the mist. There is getting things done without really be invested in them. There is wanting something to finally tip the scales but being neither angered or upset when nothing does. Dissatisfication holds you back from getting a huge list of tasks completed but it is not paralysis. Paralysis involves something actively holding you back, even if it is the physical insubstantiality of fear. Dissatisfaction is seeing no obstacles, awareness that none are there, and being unable to will yourself toward your goal any faster.

I have to wonder if dissatisfaction ever becomes cured or if it simply evolves into another emotion. In most cases, I suspect frustration/anger or desire take over and become motivating factors. Unfortunately nothing of the sort is taking hold at the moment...
