November Sale Roundup

Hi bumblebees,

This is not a sponsored post and there are no affiliate links except the one at the bottom. I was just trying to clear out some of the almost 19,000 emails I have in my inbox for some reason when I realized that I'm constantly getting bombarded with sales and promotions (which is a problem when all my newsletters with actual articles end up in the same tab). So, where am I going with this? I can't promise this is going to be a regular thing but at least for Black Friday/Cyber Monday I'll try to update this post when I see a sale that looks interesting. No fuss. Just whatever discounts I see floating around. I'll link to the website when I've verified that the codes are working.

Tarte Friends and Family Sale

Hi chickadees,

Tarte is currently having a 3-day Friends and Family sale from December 9 through December 12 at 11:59pm EST. Just type in the code DECFF at checkout to receive 30% off. I would also try and spend at least $40 to qualify for free shipping so you get the most out of your order. Now, I just placed an order at Tarte so I don't think I'll be taking advantage of this offer but if you've had your eye on the much-praised Amazonian clay blushes or one of their popular value sets, this would be a great time to place an order.

Things I Am Currently Obsessed With: Cyber Monday Edition

Hi chickadees!

It feels like I haven't done one of these posts in forever, probably because I have been making so many purchases in the last few months. I'm actually trying to cut back on my impulse purchases which is why I'm devoting this "Things I Am Currently Obsessed With" post to what I would be purchasing this Cyber Monday if I just had a ridiculous amount of disposable income. Feel free to take advantage of some of these deals for yourself. As always, I have no sponsors. I'm just presenting these shopping ideas for you and if you do want to support this site, then please consider clicking one of the amazon.com links on my page and doing your amazon.com shopping through my affiliate links. It won't cost you any more but I'll get a tiny percentage on whatever purchase you make.

Dannijo is currently offering a 20% promotion on their site. As far as I know there are no exclusions but test out the coupon code on the items you're interested in to be sure. All you need to do is type in the coupon code "SURPRISE20." What would I purchase? The Dahlia necklace. Not only does it remind me a little of the Aurelie necklace but it is one of the more wearable statement necklaces that Dannijo is currently selling. The necklace is currently selling for $695 but with the discount code of 20% off, you knock a full $139 off the price leaving you with $556. Now that still isn't cheap for a Swarovski crystal necklace which is why I'm including it in this post but if you can afford it, the Dahlia necklace would be my pick from Dannijo this Cyber Monday.

Henri Bendel has been offering promo codes since Thanksgiving. Their Cyber Monday code is "CYBER13" which depending how much you spend and which items you purchase could mean discounts from 25% to 40% off. With the code CYBER13 you will also get free shipping and receive a $20 splurge card which you can use at any point after you've received it before the expiration date. I have no information on how long you'll have to spend the $20 splurge card. Now, if you've been following this site, you know what my pick will be. Of course, I'd recommend getting the Henri Bendel Cafe Girl Scarf which is now back in stock in black and white and color. The scarf is regularly priced at $125 but with the 30% discount you receive a discount of $37.50 making the final total (without tax) $87.50 with an additional $20 splurge card to spend as you see fit at Henri Bendel. If the scarf is still too much of a splurge, Henri Bendel also carries a Cafe Girl Mug for $25 with the same design featured on the scarf.
It is not part of their Cyber Monday promotion as the Cyber Monday discount does not apply to items that are already on sale but I did want to mention that beautybrands.com is currently offering Deborah Lippmann polishes at half price. Now you will not find the entire line of Deborah Lippmann polishes but there are quite a few glitter favorites like Mermaid's Dream and Glitter in the Air as well as a variety of creme and shimmer shades. I picked up a few of them myself as I only own Across the Universe and I thought it might be nice to add a few Deborah Lippmann shades to my collection while they're so cheap. Now, even half price these polishes cost $8.50-$10 which is more than your standard Essie or OPI polish (especially if you've got some kind of sneaky discount or you're taking advantage of a drugstore rewards program) but given the original price of these polishes it's worth taking a look.

I'm generally against buying clothes online but I love the look of this suede skirt from H&M. Everything sitewide is 40% off with the code 7376.

Maggy London is also offering 40% sitewide at maggylondon.com. No promo code is necessary. If you happen to be a size 2 or 6, I would get this Sarong Skirt Satin Dress for $40. If you happen to be a size 10, I like this Laser Cut Faux Leather Dress for $138. Unfortunately, the site does not allow you to apply the discount unless you already start the checkout process (which I'm not about to do) so I cannot verify that the discount gets applied.

Kate Spade is offering 30% off sitewide with the promo code CYBER30. Now I know that this isn't that impressive when the Kate Spade site seems to be having 75% off sales every week. The emails drive me crazy. But given that this is a sitewide sale it means that you have more sizing options in terms of shoes and apparel and just a greater variety of items to choose from in general. I like this Skinny Mini Bow Bangle available in gold, silver, and rose gold. There are a lot of bow bangles out there but this one seems pretty unique. Use the promo code CYBER30 to reduce this bangle from $78 to $54.60 with free shipping to all 50 states. If the bangle is not your cup of tea there are plenty of other items to choose from as Kate Spade carries handbags, jewelry, apparel, phone cases, etc.
I am so tempted to pick up the Urban Decay Smoked palette for the short time that it's $39 with a travel-size duo of the Urban Decay primer potion in Original and Greed but I won't because I already have the Dangerous palette and given how often I've used the last Urban Decay palette I bought it would just be a waste of money. But if you don't own the Dangerous palette or the Smoked palette yet and you've been wanting it, this is a great excuse to pick it up for yourself or as a Christmas present.

Kate Spade Surprise Sale

Hi chickadees,
Quick post today. I just wanted to let you know (in case you don't get emails from Kate Spade in your inbox) that there is a surprise online sale going on right now. I've selected some of my favorite items from the sale so you can get an idea of what's being offered. The sale will run until tomorrow (9/19) at 11:59pm PT.

Sephora Haul: Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Pencils and Sephora by OPI Nail Colour

Hi chickadees!

I was naughty and placed an online order at Sephora.com the other day. In my defense, I started my shopping off at Ebates which pays you 8% back for your purchases at Sephora, I only bought items that were on sale, I used the store credit I had stored on a gift card, and I added at least $50 worth of products to qualify for free shipping. Yeah, I put a lot of thought into it. It sent my little obsessive mind into overdrive.

Anyway, I thought I'd just quickly share my purchases with you.

Even though I don't love the mini Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencil in Zero that came with a little palette I bought or the full-size pencil in Perversion that I bought for myself a while ago, I could not resist the color selection they had on sale. They're still on sale for $6 at the time I'm writing this post if you're interested. I have a weakness for cool colors so I purchased four eyeliners in Flipside, Covet, Binge, and Deviant.

Flipside is a shimmery aquamarine/turquoise green. I think it'll provide a nice bright pop of colors around the eyes. It's a bit more of a summer shade but I think it could still look pretty in the fall. Or I might save it for fall because it takes me forever to test products. It's OK. I forgive you for thinking it. (Note: Swatches of all four colors at the end)
(looks a bit darker in person)

Zoya Dream Box Thanksgiving Promotion

Hi chickadees!

I just thought I'd do a quick post telling you about the Zoya Dreambox Promotion for Thanksgiving weekend.

First of all here's the link to the Zoya blog post. http://zoyanailpolish.blogspot.com/2012/11/zoya-nail-polish-dream-boxes.html

I happen to think it's not as clear as it could be so I thought I'd break it down.

Step 1: Choose 3 Zoya polishes. I chose Monica, Envy, and Storm.
Step 2: Add a Zoya Dream Box (just search for it on the site) to your order.
Step 3: In the coupon box type the word "DREAM".

And that's it. Your 3 Zoya polishes that would normally cost $24 will now be $20. I know this isn't the best promotion Zoya has offered, but if you've had your eye on a few polishes or if you want to take advantage of getting the Dream Box packaging for Christmas gifts, maybe you'd like to take advantage of the offer.

Happy shopping!

Drugstore.com MAKEUP40 Promotion and Customer Service

Hi darlings!

I've told you this before, but I don't believe in stealing stories from other sites. I heard about this promotion on Nouveau Cheap and to me, just repeating that information about the promotion would be stealing her story. But I still wanted to let you know about the promotion so you could take advantage of it if you're not following her blog (though really you should because she's brilliant) and tell you a little bit about my drugstore.com experience.

Now, to get this out of the way, the promotion is very simple. It's running through 10/20 but I would take advantage of it ASAP before everything is out of stock.

http://nouveaucheap.blogspot.com/2012/10/40-off-all-makeup-at-drugstorecom.html

I would use the links through Nouveau Cheap because that's the easiest way of making sure you're shopping in the right section for the items that are actually on sale. Once you've accumulated the items you would like, simply add the MAKEUP40 code into the promo code box and it will take 40% off each of the applicable items. This promotion does not work for everything and I don't think it works for items on beauty.com their sister site, so again, just use the links through Nouveau Cheap to be safe.

OK, on to the fun part. This is everything I ordered (which of course, is a preview into all the reviews that will be coming up).

  • L'Oreal Telescopic Explosion Waterproof Mascara in Blackest Black: This is my go-to mascara. I got two so I would have a new one and a backup.
  • Maybelline Colorsensational Lipcolor: I know how much you all liked the last reviews I did so I decided to pick up more of these. Also, I think it's a great chance for me to try vampy/brighter lip colors that I'd normally be a bit scared to spend too much for. I got Deepest Cherry, Rum Riche, and Fifth Avenue Fuchsia.
  • Maybelline Gel Eyeliner in Blackest Black: You know I love it. I know I love it. Let's not play games.
  • Revlon Super Lustrous Creme Lipstick: I ordered from the opposite ends of the spectrum. A nude pink (Prim-Rose) and a vampy red (Black Cherry).
  • Revlon Nail Enamel in Vixen: I'm still on the lookout for that perfect oxblood. This is another polish I heard about on egnailsit.com.
  • Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Strips in Laced Up: I've yet to try the plaid design I bought a while back. I don't keep my nail color on for very long so I think it would just be a waste to put it on for a few days and take it off. I'm waiting for the right occasion to use it. But the plaid design and Laced Up have always been the two designs I eye in the display case but never get because they are so expensive.
  • Sally Hansen Pumice Foot Polish With Lavender: This is one of those "why the heck not" purchases. If it saves me a trip to the salon, why the heck not, right?
  • Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Anti-Chip Top Coat: I've heard raves about this and though I still don't think anything is going to beat my beloved Seche Vite, I'm willing it give it a try for $3.29. I also wanted to try the Diamond Shine Base and Top Coat but it was out of stock when I wanted to place my order. (more on that later)
  • Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Red Zin: Another possible oxblood polish.
  • OPI Nail Lacquer: Some advice. Drugstore.com separates the OPI polishes into a classic collection and then individual collections so the easiest thing to do is just select OPI as a brand and then search through each option or to look up the specific polish you want. You can't beat OPI polishes for $4.80.
    • Suzi Loves Cowboys (rich dark brown. I don't have anything like it in my collection.)
    • French Quarter For Your Thoughts (light gray. Still looking for one with a great formula.)
    • Yoga-ta Get This Blue (Shiny dark blue. I have Milani's Bolting Blue but I could always use another)
    • Monsooner or Later (Orange? Red? I don't have many reds so I'm happy to try it out.)
    • Color So Hot It Berns (True red? Hope so.)
    • You Don't Know Jacques (Another polish people rave about. I think it's a great excuse to try it out at $4.80).
Now I'm going to kvetch a little.

These are the items that were in my shopping cart but which I couldn't get because they were out of stock when I could finally place my order.
  • OPI Nail Lacquer
    • Samoan Sand: So sad about this one. I always want to get it but it's hard to spring for $8 for a nude polish when I'm not sure about the formula.
    • Here Today Aragon Tomorrow: So sad because I've wanted this for ages but I've always heard that it's an almost black dark green. For $4.80, I would have tried it for myself.
    • Thanks a Windmillion: A want a good sea-foam. This seems a little more green. I'm not heartbroken about this one.
    • Barre My Soul: I really wanted to try this but I couldn't justify a sheer beige polish when I already have so many. I could have justified it for $4.80 but sadly it wasn't meant to be.
    • You Callin Me a Lyre?: I really wanted to get a back-up. Oh, well.
  • Sally Hansen Diamond Shine Base and Top Coat: I really wanted to try this top coat that everyone who doesn't love Seche Vite is always raving about.
So, why was I unable to place my order and get these other items? Because I went to another website that placed another promotion on my order and which I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get rid of.

So I wrote an email to customer service. And they told me to delete all the cookies on the page. Which I did. I still kept getting the same error message that I could only have one promotion placed on the order. So I wrote back. And they said they had fixed it. But then hadn't. So I fumed a bit. And I wrote to their twitter page. And then I called 1-800-Drugstore.

And finally, finally, I got my issue resolved. Of course, I had to manually go back and add each of my items again but at least I managed to get the bulk of my order. I'm a little miffed that it took so long to get everything resolved but I will say that for the most part I had a good experience with their customer service. Service was very kind and courteous and they did their best to review the issue promptly.

I would definitely shop at Drugstore.com and Beauty.com again (this is my second time placing an order) but I am staying away from websites with their own promo codes so I don't have to go through this hassle again. I would recommend anyone having issues to just call their customer service line.

BCBGMAXAZRIA Sale

Hi chickadees!

Just wanted to write up a quick post letting you know about the BCBCMAXAZRIA sale going on online right now. There are a lot of heavily discounted dresses on sale right now perfect for those end of summer parties or even if you want to stock up for fall or next year's prom season. In my opinion, the other merchandise (jewelry, handbags, bottoms, etc.) is a little less exciting, but feel free to check it all out for yourself. You can shop by category or discount and all of the lines, including Herve Leger have select items on sale right now. I'm not sure how long this Summer Sale will continue so presumably it's until they're out of stock.

http://www.bcbg.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=4015528&view=all

I'll leave you with this dress I've been fixated on because it just looks so Gossip Girl to me and I have an unhealthy obsession with that show.

Jones New York Sale

DISCLAIMER: Now, my personal philosophy for this blog is that I don't steal stories from other sites. I don't post about a sale unless I've been contacted by the company (in which case I'll tell you that I've been asked to write a post), I came across the information on my own (I'm on a few designer mailing lists), or I feel like I have something to contribute. To me, reposting information about a sale that I got from another site would just be cheating. I found about this Jones New York sale on Racked, but I am writing from the perspective of someone who purchased items from said sale. Just wanted to get that out of the way.

The items I'm going to show you are ones I purchased. Jones New York is currently having their Semi-Annual Sale where you can get an amazing 40% off items that are already on sale. And shipping is free if you spend $50 or more. You can check out everything on offer by heading to jny.com and choosing "sale". I hate buying clothes online without trying them on but even I couldn't resist this. Unfortunately, sizing is limited depending on the style. The sale ends Wednesday July 4 at 11:59pm ET but I'd suggest heading to the website now if you're interested.

Satin Pleated Dress $119.00 $59.00 $35.40
How adorable is this dress? It reminds me of one I bought years ago but never wore before I outgrew it. I didn't stand a chance. A fitted satin dress at the same price I spend on jersey? Forget it. It's currently still available in sizes 6, 8, and 10.

Pleated Long Full Skirt $149.00 $69.00 $41.40
I need more basic, conservative well-made skirts and this strikes me as very Audrey for some reason. Currently available in sizes 8, 10, 12, and 14.

ZARA Online Sale

The Zara Sale has started online and will start in stores today. I just wanted to share some of my favorite dresses on sale with you. You can find them at the links provided or search the Zara website for yourself. Just head to zara.com.

$69.99 down from $99.90
Whether you want a slightly dressy outfit for warm, outdoor summer parties or just want to stock up on 1920s pieces before The Great Gatsby film possibly ushers in a new trend, this is a sweet, effortless option.
http://www.zara.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product/us/en/zara-us-S2012-s/244886/713547/EMBROIDERED%2BDRESS%2BWITH%2BFRILLS

$99.99 down from $169.00
This strikes me as a perfect choice for a more casual garden or beach wedding, especially if you're trying to save money and maybe go more DIY with decor.
http://www.zara.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product/us/en/20551/189503/715026/EMBROIDERED+TULLE+DRESS

$59.99 down from $99.90
I might snatch this one up if I like the way it fits in store. It looks a little heavier, like it might be more of a spring dress but it's in a very flattering silhouette and I love the colors in the pattern.
http://www.zara.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product/us/en/zara-us-S2012-s/244886/798013/FISH%2BPRINT%2BDRESS

$59.99 down from $89.90
Again, this is a personal favorite. It's deceptively simple and very feminine with a flirty cut to the skirt and a lovely low back.

Kate Spade SALE

Hi chickadees!

Lord, the weather is awful here. Well, right now it's sunny (because it's hateful like that) but about an hour ago it was raining buckets. I managed to sneak out to get my Sephora birthday gift and a bottle of MAC Cleanse Off Oil which I will be trying out and reviewing for you ASAP. But this post is not about any of that. I just enjoy rambling.

If you subscribe to the Kate Spade mailing list you will have already seen this in your inbox, but in case you don't, I wanted to do a quick post informing you of the current sale on her website (and apparently in stores as well). Note: This is not applicable to Kate Spade Outlet Stores. It will run until 7/8/12 at 11:59 pm PST which should give you plenty of time to get your shopping done. Handbags, coin purses, shoes, apparel, jewelry, etc. are on sale.

The only thing I own from Kate Spade are my glasses but I do like her designs. For the most part, they're clean and simple, but cost significantly less than their more expensive counterparts. Oh, you know which brands I mean. I thought I'd just let you know about this since there are lots of handbags on sale and I know a lot of you are in other countries, or just not in NY and haven't been able to make it to the bajillion handbag sales that have been going on recently. Heck, I live here, and I haven't even gone.

Anyway, here's the link. Happy shopping!

White House/Black Market Sale

As I was scoping out daily sale listings, I noticed one for White House/Black Market on Racked. I decided to pretend my browsing was productive by doing a quick post showing you my favorite items. Personally, I'm reluctant to buy anything online, particularly clothing because it's difficult to assess what you'll actually be purchasing from an online photo. But if you're braver than I am, maybe one of these might appeal to you.

I do like that the site has plenty of reviews for most of the items and a video for most of the garments showing a model moving around in the clothes and giving you a 360 view to give you an even better idea of how the item will look when worn. I'm not sure how long the sale is lasting so if you see something you like, I'd grab it before they run out of stock.

Happy shopping,
Cat

Drugstore Makeup Sales NYC (Week of 2/20/12 - 2/25/12)

Every week I go through the circulars for the NYC drugstore locations closest to me on the Walgreens, Duane Reade, and CVS websites. Here are the makeup sales of particular interest this week. I was originally just going to do a post letting you know about the sale on the L'Oreal Magic Lumi Primer because I like it so much I'm probably going to get another one but I didn't have enough to say to write a full post as I'm still gathering my thoughts for a full review.

I should also note that it's good to take a look at the circular in the store because unless it says "all" of a certain brand is on sale, drugstores sometimes try and trick you and only put the items in the picture on sale. It is important to pay attention when you're paying at the register and also to write to customer service and speak up if there's a problem.

Duane Reade
  • L'Oreal Magic Lumi Primer $9.99 (down from around $13 so this is a pretty good discount)
  • L'Oreal Color Riche Lip Balm $5.99 (down from $8 or $9)
  • $1 off all Nicole by O.P.I. Nail Lacquer (so $7)
  • BOGO 1/2 off all Covergirl Simply Ageless Makeup
  • BOGO 1/2 off all Maybelline Lip or Face Products
  • Save $2 on all Biore products
  • Save $2 on all Organix products
  • PopChips (3 oz bags) are 2 for $5

CVS
  • Spend $10 on any Maybelline Face, Eye, or Lip products and get $3 extrabucks (CVS ExtraBucks are basically like cash. The next time you make a purchase (even on nonmakeup items) you can present your ExtraBucks and that sum gets deducted from your total.)
  • BOGO1/2 off all Revlon Lip or Nail

Walgreens
  • BOGO 1/2 off Curel Lotion/Biore Scrub or 6-14 pack Strips (I have no idea if this means you can get a Curel lotion and a pack of Biore strips and take advantage of the offer...or if you have to get 2 Curel lotions or 2 Biore products.)
  • Goody Ouchless Elastics pay $2.99 get $2 Register Rewards (Walgreens Register Rewards are like CVS ExtraBucks but you don't need a Walgreens card to get them or use them. This basically means, you have to pay $2.99 but next time, you can deduct $2 from your purchase, so it's like paying 99 cents if you're going to buy something else in the future.)
  • BOGO 1/2 off L'Oreal foundation, concealer, powder, blush
  • BOGO 1/2 off Maybelline, Neutrogena, Revlon, and Covergirl products
