REVIEW of Pure Ice Polish in First Time With SWATCHES

Hello newbies,

I'd like to believe I'm attracting new readers to my blog so if you're new welcome and if you're a faithful, longtime reader thanks for coming back. My name's Cat. I kind of write about anything that takes my fancy though this blog has grown to mainly focus on sample sale reports and nail polish reviews. If you'd like to read my thoughts on anything else you'll have to internet stalk me (or just shoot me an email). Enough stalling. Let's get into the review.

Color: Pure Ice First Time is a green frost polish. The green is almost metallic but I wouldn't call the finish metallic. The shade is a cool medium green that photographs a little warmer and more yellow than it is in person. It's not quite as light as pistachio and not as dark as the green you'd pull out of a box of crayons. It's very flattering for my skin tone in particular but I think it would flatter a range of skin tones that look good with coolers shades.
Formula: The formula is not thin but it is fluid on the nail.
Application: The first coat went on smoothly. The polish flows easily over the nail but this is not a polish you want to overwork with the brush because brushstrokes are very visible. Also, going over the polish with the brush too many times will just push the polish around instead of evening it out. The second also went on smoothly, however it wasn't an even coat because the polish isn't self-leveling and I wasn't able to work with it because of the visible brushstrokes. I also noticed that it had a very strong smell. Not a perfumed scent, but a toxic polish smell. The third coat also applied easily without drag. In fact, it went on more easily than the other two coats. The polish did apply a little messily on my ring finger but I fixed it.

CONCLUSION: I would recommend this polish. Application isn't a breeze but it's good for a frost and I do think the color is flattering. Pure Ice polishes are also comparatively very affordable.

REVIEW of Pure Ice Polish in Superstar! With SWATCHES

Hello superstars,

I'm sorry I've been neglecting you. I've had a busy month... leaving the house and all. Also, the external hard drive where I store all the photos for the blog before they're ready to go into reviews crashed again so that put a hold on things. Anyway, I thought we could all use a palate cleanser so to say goodbye to (hopefully) the last of the snow this winter, let's talk about Pure Ice Superstar!

Color: Superstar! is a white creme polish. There's not much more to say beyond that. I'd say it's more of a stark white. That is, it's more like white out than the softer, creamier white cremes or the white shimmer polishes I've reviewed. I don't remember Zoya Purity that clearly but it's definitely more of a stark white than Cult Nails Tempest. As always, if you'd like a comparison post, just leave a request in the comments.
Formula: This polish has a thin formula.
Application: The first coat applied without any drag. You do have to be careful about managing the pressure and angle of the brush to avoid making streaks in the polish. It was nice to see that the polish wasn't thick or gloopy at all which is always a concern for me with light-colored polishes. I wouldn't try to even out the polish to avoid pushing polish around because the formula is thin. The second coat also applied a little streaky because of the brush but the actual polish didn't cause any issues. At two coats the polish wasn't opaque but I was impressed with the opacity. While the formula is thin, it's not like working with fluid nude polish or a jelly polish. The third coat applied smoothly. At three coats the polish is opaque though it fails a light test, likely due in large part to how light the color is.

CONCLUSION: I still prefer Cult Nails Tempest which has a better application but this polish was far superior to Zoya Purity. If you want to save money trying out a white creme or you just don't want to spend as much on Tempest, Superstar! will serve you well. The results won't be as perfect and you need a steady hand but for the price, it applies amazingly well for a white creme polish. If you're crazy about white creme polish, you could get both Tempest and Superstar!

REVIEW of Pure Ice Polish in Gossip! With SWATCHES

Hello peanuts,
I think bright pink polishes exist to torment me. They never want to photograph properly. Something about the color makes my camera crazy. I would normally just stick to the bright pinks I already own but you know I can't resist a cheap polish or a good deal and I was able to get this with a bunch of other polishes at a discount during the last San Gennaro festival. And yes, my residual Gossip Girl fandom probably pushed me over the edge into picking this polish in particular.

Color: Gossip! is a bright pink creme polish. Gosh, it's nice to just type "creme" again. It's so much easier than working out any of the other finishes. The color of this polish is a little trickier to pin down. I've seen "fuchsia" and "magenta" and "orchid" slapped on so many products of different shades that at this point they're meaningless to me. Gossip! is a bright pink that doesn't smack you in the face like a neon pink but isn't dark enough to be a jewel tone. It's your average bright pink. It's a little blue-toned but really it's just the pink you grab when you're not looking for something terribly specific.
Formula: The formula isn't notably thin or thick.
Application: The first coat of this polish went on smoothly. It wasn't perfect and self-leveling but it was very fluid with no drag on the brush. I did have to even out the polish a little. With the second coat I had to even it out more with the brush but it still wasn't causing me major problems. However, the polish wasn't covering the nail evenly. The third coat went on smoothly but there was no way to completely fix the manicure after the first two coats. The polish was opaque at three coats with slight patchiness.
Wear: I started getting tip wear very early with this polish. I wore this polish for longer than I should have because I just couldn't find the time to switch out the polish and the tip wear was very bad by the time I removed it.

CONCLUSION: This is one of those cases where you get what you pay for. The color of the polish is fine but it wears very poorly, chipping easily and application isn't great. I wouldn't recommend it.

REVIEW of Pure Ice Nail Polish in First Love With SWATCHES

Hello love bugs,

Full disclosure, I'm in a weird mood today. Anyway, let's put that aside to talk about another one of the polishes I purchased in my San Gennaro polish haul, Pure Ice Nail Polish in First Love. I've never come across Pure Ice polishes before as they are Walmart exclusive and there are no Walmart's near me.
Color: First Love is a white shimmer polish. It's a soft sheer color like a cream satin with a slight pink undertone. It can also throw off a little green but I think that's just when I get it around technology and it's reflecting off some of those colors because this is definitely not a duochrome. If you'd like I can do a comparison with Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure and Confetti I <3 U as those are the closest colors I have in my collection. I don't hate First Love but it's not really a stunner for me. I just wanted to take it easy after cutting my nails super short and wanting to get my manicure over with very quickly late at night. It's at those times that I really reach for the nude polishes or the inky dark polishes because application is usually a breeze.
Formula: The polish is sheer but it's not super thin. The consistency and viscosity are about the same as a standard creme polish that doesn't have a notably thin or thick formula.
Application: As expected, the first coat went on super smoothly. The second coat also went on smoothly. You have to pay a little bit of attention and make sure you're aligning your brushstrokes so all the lines are pointed in the same direction as this does show brushstrokes a little but I had no issues with getting nice even layers. I also liked the brush. It was firm but flexible with the bristles spreading nicely to get flush with the skin. At three coats, the polish was not opaque but I think this is one of those polishes where you're not going to get full opacity. The manicure was very even though.

CONCLUSION: I think this polish is prettier in the bottle than it is on the nail. It still has that pearlescent, satiny quality on the nail but you lose a lot of the depth because it is on the sheerer side. If you just cannot deal with visible nail line, this is not the polish for you. I may try layering it in the future even though that's something I generally don't do. Let me know in the comments if you'd like to see this layered over black polish or some color. This isn't that special of a polish but if you like the look of these kinds of sheer opalescent polishes, application was excellent, so I would recommend checking this out. I was impressed at how smooth it looked and I think that stopped the polish from looking as cheap as it actually was. If you're going to go for a sheer, pearlescent polish totally go for the one that's only a dollar or two and has a really easy application with great results.
