Walgreens and CVS sales January 2012

If you're like me, and feeling anxious from the lack of sample sales, don't fear. Perhaps this would be a good time to turn your attention to the drugstore sales that are currently happening. In addition to the regular weekly in store sales, CVS and Walgreen's are offering additional savings if you order online.

At CVS, where I have an ExtraCare card, the discount is 25% if you subscribe to their emails. My code was EXCLUSIVE25 and as that doesn't seem tremendously unique, I assume you could use it without having a card or without subscribing to the emails but I'm not sure so definitely check before going ahead with your checkout. The sale is ongoing until January 15. I tested it out a little browsing the website, and it seems like when you apply the code, 25% percent gets taken off almost all the items in your cart. It didn't work for everything as one of the mascaras I threw in there remained $8.99 before and after applying the code. Add this to the regular weekly sales (you need to input your extracare card number for these, I think) and the random markdowns and you could have a brand new haul of items to try out for the new year. They do have new items like Revlon Lip Butters but the code did not work on them. Regular in store sales, according to the circular for my part of NY are...

Clean and Clear $4.99 with card
Spend $15 and get $5 Extrabucks when you buy L'Oreal (excluding clearance)
Aveeno BOGO 1/2 off with card

Here is the fine print in case you're curious. I highlighted some big beauty brands that are left out of the sale. Notably Essie and Orly nail polish and most of the more expensive moisturizers.

"*Offer available online only. Expires 1/15/12 at 11:59 PM ET. To receive the 20% off sitewide discount enter coupon code GET20NOW at Checkout. This offer is not valid for orders placed on the CVS/pharmacy Online Photo Center. I'm less clear about Walgreen's since I just saw the sale info when I logged onto the site. You apparently get an extra 20% off all Beauty and Personal Care products online, including sale items, when you use the code 20BEAUTY at checkout until Saturday January 14. Another thing to note, shipping is free if you spend over $25. Here is the link for all the sale items.

When I tested the checkout for Walgreen's I found that they automatically apply the discount for sale items (i.e. BOGO 1/2 off Maybelline Cosmetics) and then total the items and take 20% off. Oh, and with Walgreen's you can get your La Roche Posay and Essie and apparently whatever else you want. Let me know if there are any exceptions. As to the selection on the site, I'm not sure if they have a ton of new products but they certainly have all the new releases from Maybelline...the Dream Bouncy Blushes and the mascara, etc. They also have the new Essie Luxe Effects collection. However, for some reason they don't have the Essie Winter collection. The rest of the items are similarly limited. That is, they have a brand of lipstick but they don't offer all the current colors for that brand. Still, it's a good time to stock up on skin care.

Well, all of that certainly has me motivated to get out of the house, see some of these items in person and then get to hauling. That Christmas money is burning a hole in my mental purse. Happy Shopping!

(Note: I will update this post as I learn more.)
